Other relevant information:Queen Victoria School (QVS) is a non-fee-paying, fully boarding school for the children of Scottish Armed Services personnel and those who have served in Scotland. Its 277 places are much sought after, and are allocated on the basis of greatest family need; the school is not academically selective.

2008 saw the School celebrating its Centenary, nowhere with more panache and enthusiasm than at the Edinburgh Tattoo. Then again in 2012 the Pipes, Drums and Dancers performed as a regular item on the programme, they have also performed at Tattoos in Nova Scotia, Luxembourg and recently at the Basel and Zurich Christmas Tattoo in Switzerland.

Piping, drumming and dancing have been an important part of QVS throughout its life and continue so today. Every pupil who enters the School at the age of 10 or 11 learns one of those three disciplines which are compulsory for 3years. The team of instructors tasked with teaching are Drum Major Jim Clark, Pipe Major Gordon Ross and for the dancing Stephanie Stinson. Marching, music and dancing give pupils a sense of community within the School and of their very central role within the family of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom.
